DEEP DIVE INTO JACOBEAN

New to embroidery, or want to refine and develop the essential stitches further?

This course offers an ideal introduction to a diverse range of surface embroidery stitches commonly used in Jacobean Crewelwork, along with other essential embroidery techniques. Throughout the course, you will not only develop your skills but also gain confidence in mastering the fundamental stitches to ensure precision and technique.

Mastering Embroidery Can Be Easier Than You Think...

When I started embroidery, it was both exciting and frustrating. I was drawn to the beauty of stitching, but I often felt stuck, unsure how to improve. I remember spending many hours perfecting Long & Short—trying to get a smooth transition between shades.

Thankfully, expert tutors on my apprenticeship from the Royal School of Needlework, guided me through these challenges. Their insights helped me understand not just what to do, but why techniques work—and that knowledge transformed the way I approached embroidery.

Over the years, I’ve taught embroidery to students of all skill levels. Whether you’re just starting or have some experience, I know how hard it can be to break through plateaus and achieve consistently beautiful results. That’s why I created this course: to help stitchers at any level refine their skills, overcome frustrating roadblocks, and unlock their full potential.

This course isn’t just about following instructions—it’s about mastering the techniques and building confidence so you can tackle any project with ease. I’ll share the practical tips, shortcuts, and insights I wish I’d known when I started, so you can spend less time struggling and more time enjoying the process.

Whether you’re looking to neaten your Satin stitches, perfect your tension, or explore shading within Jacobean embroidery and surface stitches, this course is designed to meet you where you are. Together, we’ll focus on precision, technique, and creativity to help you achieve polished, professional results that you’ll be proud to share.

Let’s take your embroidery to the next level in this comprehensive live online course. You’ll learn new techniques, refine your skills, and fall in love with the art of stitching all over again.

What Our Students Say

  • <autoplay speed=3></autoplay>"I’m so happy that I took the plunge "

I’m so happy that I took the plunge (no pun intended) and signed up for the Deep Dive into Goldwork.  Sara is an amazing tutor and has thought of everything to make this an enjoyable and achievable course.  I would highly recommend Sara and her fabulous course without hesitation.

    Lesley

  • "I really have the highest praise for Sara"

I am writing as a student of Sara Rickards who has been thrilled to learn all of the new techniques in her Deep Dive into Goldwork course. We are into the 3rd term and I am in awe of Sara's abilities--both as an embroiderer and as a teacher. This is the third course that I've taken from Sara and I plan on signing up for a fourth.

  • "Sara clearly enjoys teaching"

Sara clearly enjoys teaching and likes interacting with people which gives the course a great atmosphere (both online and in person). Her explanations are crystal clear, she has additional recordings of her Zoom classes that allow reference to the demonstration, and even her kits are clearly explained and well-ordered. Sara always comes up with beautiful things to do and is very patient as we less experienced/talented students try to imitate her techniques. I don't think that any of us can go wrong by learning from such a creative, patient person.

  • "Sara is an excellent teacher."

Sara is an excellent teacher. Not only does she show the history and technical execution of stitches and techniques, but she also shows us how to modify and develop the techniques. She supports, advises, and encourages us when we are stuck.

    Andrejka

  • "I shall be signing up for the course next year"

I have completed both the Deep dive into Goldwork and Stumpwork courses and find Sara a very clear tutor who is very patient with her students . Nothing is too much trouble and I have looked forward to the zoom course each week on both the courses. I shall be signing up for the course next year.
